MUSKETRY (1915)

Edited by E. J. SOLANO

JOHN MURRAY, London, 1915

An original WW1 British Army musketry manual, first published by John Murray in January 1915 as part of  the 'Imperial Army Series' of military manuals that were edited by Captain E. J. Solano. The book was reprinted several times during WW1 - this is the third printing, dated March 1915. It includes comprehensive details of the theory and practice of musketry for officers and men in training and in action on the Western Front. This revised edition includes updated advice, based on 'experience from the front', on German front-line tactics. It also covers training in the use of the standard issue .303 Lee-Enfield Mk III rifle, including aiming, judging distance, firing positions, ammunition, ballistics, battlefield use, maintenance, stripping, cleaning, etc. The use of the Mk I hand grenade is also covered.

The book is very well illustrated throughout, with photograhs, diagrams and line drawings. There are also some interesting advertisements for officers trench equipment, with details of popular brands of officer's kit, waterproofs, trench periscopes, and torches.
