A vintage Japanese wrist compass, dating from the mid 20th century, probably made in the 1950's or 1960's. It features a floating aluminium compass card, with luminous paint marker dots and a manual transit lock. The card design is clearly influenced by the Singer's Patent designs of the 1860's. The compass has a nickel-plated case, with a transit lock operated by a button on the side of the case. Complete with original leather strap and box, marked 'Made in Japan', and with the serial number '93'.
Condition:
The compass is in excellent, almost 'as new' condition and finds North very well. The transit lock is working and the luminous paint markers still glow in the dark. The leather strap is in very good condition, and looks as though it has never been used. The cardboard box is a little worn, but still in good condition.
Dimensions : 38mm diameter (Strap length: 240mm)
