A very rare 1928 edition of Handbook of the German Army, a British War Office manual. The handbook is a detailed survey of the units, organisation, administration, personnel, weapons, and equipment of the post-Versailles Treaty Weimar Republic German Army. This was a restricted document, marked on the cover 'For Official Use Only - This document is the property of H.B.M. Government'. Only 875 copies were printed.

Subjects covered include: history and topography, constitution and government, recruiting and manpower, officers, NCOs and officials, strength and organisation of army, administration, Command and Staff, infantry, machine guns, cavalry, artillery, fortresses, trench mortars, ammunition, pioneers, chemical warfare, signals, transport, railways, medical services, semi-military organisations, veterans associations, Police and Gendarmerie, discipline, ordnance department, military education, uniform, aeronautics, navy, and appendices.

The handbook is well illustrated with charts, photographs and line drawings. There are some excellent illustrations of German soldiers personal equipment and uniforms, and plates showing the various artillery weapons, machine guns, etc. With 2 large (73cm x 95cm) folding maps in a pocket at the rear.

Condition:

In very good condition. The card cover is in good condition with general signs of wear and use, creased corners, wear to the edges and spine, and some marks. The hinges and binding are good and secure. The text and illustrations are in very good condition with some marks and a few creased corners.
