An original August 1917 edition of the WW1 British Army handbook Defensive Measures Against Gas Attacks. This manual would have been issued to officers and NCOs in the front line. It includes detailed advice on Gas warfare, tactics, and equipment. Subjects covered include: nature of gas attacks, gas projectiles, poison gas, chlorine, phosgene, organisation of gas defences, officers duties, personal anti-gas equipment, respirators, protection of shelters, weapons and equipment, gas alarms, action during a gas attack, gas cylinders, gas helmets, anti-gas fans, Vermorel sprayers, cavalry equipment, tunnelling, signals, respirator drill. In good condition. The card cover is in good condition, with general signs of wear and use, and some marks. The stapled binding is secure, although the original staples are rusty. The text is in good condition, with some creased corners and some marks. There is a very faint pencil signature, 'Haigh', on the front cover.
