German Pocket Compass 1910 | Case

German Hunter Cased Pocket Compass c.1910

Price $0.00 Sale

A hunter cased, nickel-plated brass, German pocket compass, dating from c.1910. There are no makers marks, so it is not possible to attribute it to a particular maker. It can be identified as German by the 'O' (for  'Ost') which appears on the card instead of the 'E' (East) marker. The compass features an aluminium card and an English-type bar needle with jewelled pivot. An almost identical example can be seen on page 98 of Kornelia Takacs excellent book, Compass Chronicles (Schiffer Publishing Ltd, 2010).

Condition:

The compass is in good condition, working order and finds North well. There would originally have been an automatic transit lock, but this is now missing. The case opens and closes well with a press of the button at the loop.

Dimensions : 42mm (62mm including loop)
