Volume II - Parts I & II
Artillery Part I and Artillery Part II

M.I. 10, THE WAR OFFICE, London, 1948

Illustrated Record of German Army Equipment (Volume II, Parts I & II) is an extremely rare, original, WW2 M.I. 10 (Military Intelligence 10) War Office Intelligence manual, produced by M.I. 10 for the office of the Director of Military Intelligence and distributed in 1948. This is one of the very few documents that can be directly attributed to M.I. 10, the shadowy British wartime intelligence department that specialised in enemy weapons. Unlike the celebrated M.I.5 and M.I.6, very little is known about M.I. 10 other than that it was involved in the technical analysis of weapons. After WW2 it was merged into M.I.6.

The foreword states that: ‘For any recipient officially requiring fuller information on any particular subject, the records available can be consulted through M.I.10, the War Office, up to the 30th May 1949. Therafter they will be disposed of.’ Very few copies were produced, and hardly any will have survived outside the major museum collections.

Covering the Artillery Weapons of the German Army from 1939-1945, these two large-format volumes were issued in very small numbers soon after the end of the Second World War. Volume II (Parts I & II) was the second in a series which covered all the weapons of the German Army in WW2 (other volumes dealt with mines, infantry weapons, non-AFV vehicles, and Armoured Fighting Vehicles).

These manuals include a great deal of information in the form of descriptions and assessments of all the various types of artillery, including Anti-Tank, Flak, Coastal Defences, Infantry Support, Medium Artillery, Heavy Artillery, Field Guns, Howitzers, Railway Guns, etc. The two volumes are very well illustrated throughout, including more than 200 plates and illustrations of German artillery weapons and equipment.

A fascinating and invaluable reference work on the artillery of the Third Reich during WW2, this is a very useful primary source for anyone researching both the Nazi military machine and the work of the British Intelligence Services

Both volumes are in good condition. The boards are in good condition, with general signs of wear and use, some wear at the edges and corners, and some marks. The metal screw bindings are very good and secure. The text and illustrations are in very good condition, with a few minor marks. There are small ink stamps of the 'Historical Section, Office of the War Cabinet' and 'Imperial War Museum' on the covers and title pages.
