WAR OFFICE

H.M.S.O., London, 1915

A very rare WW1 War office British Army Maxim .303 Machine Gun manual, published by H.M.S.O. in 1915. A comprehensive and detailed handbook, it was intended to be used by machine gunners and officers in the field. It would have been carried in action as an invaluable guide to the Maxim machine gun. With instructions and advice on a wide range of topics, from the mechanism and maintenance of the guns, to firing, loading, belt filling, stripping, packing, limber transport, tripods, mountings, and spares. The handbook is very well illustrated with an extensive series of excellent fold-out technical drawings and photographs of the Maxim, tripods, mountings, parts, and limbers. There are numerous plates and scale drawings showing the detailed workings of the mechanism and the various parts of the gun.
