An original WW1 Lewis Machine Gun handbook, published by the Savage Arms Corporation, undated, but published c.1918. The Lewis Gun was manufactured during the First World War by both BSA of Birmingham and the Savage Arms Co. of New York. This book is a guide to the handling and maintenance of the aircraft variant of the Lewis Gun as used by the Royal Flying Corps and US Aero Squadrons on the Western Front. Fully illustrated, it includes a great deal of useful information, with details of how to assemble, load and fire the gun, flight drills, parts, spares and accessories, tables of troubleshooting tips, and advice on how to deal with stoppages.


In very good condition. The card cover shows minor signs of wear and use, and some marks. The stapled binding is very good and secure. The text and illustrations are in very good condition. The large, full-colour fold-out diagram of the Lewis Gun attached to the back cover of the book is in very good condition.
