A WW2 J. Hudson & Co. nickel plated brass whistle, dated 1939. The whistle is marked 'J. Hudson & Co., Birmingham, 1939'. This type of whistle was supplied to the British army, RAF, Royal Navy, and Civil Defence services during WW2. This whistle was made before the Birmingham factory was badly damaged during a German air raid in October 1940.
J. Hudson & Co was founded in the 1870s in Birmingham by Joseph Hudson (1848–1930) and his brother James Hudson (1850–1888). The company became the leading manufacturer of whistles and continues as Acme Whistles. Acme is the world’s largest and most famous producer of whistles. The company produced whistles for the British armed forces in both world wars.
The whistle is in good original condition and full working order. There is some minor wear to the original nickel plated finish of the case.
