CHARLES LETTS & CO., London, c.1941

A rare original WW2 Air National Defence Pocket Book, covering a wide range of subjects, including aircraft recognition, anti-aircraft defence, weapons, anti-tank rifles, machine guns, bombing, bullets, rank badges, use of the compass, naval recognition, field sketching, maps, fire fighting, first aid, military signs, morse code, musketry and gunnery, rifles, submachine guns, and the Home guard.

All of this information would have been very useful for Army, navy, RAF, A.R.P. members, emergency services, and other military personnel. The book is undated, but was published in c.1941 (it includes notes made by the original owner dated September 1941).

With details and illustrations of aircraft, warships, small arms, machine guns and submachine guns. There are aircraft recognition silhouettes to the front endpapers, and Warship silhouettes to the rear endpapers. The book also has notes pages at the rear on which the original owner has added pencil notes, some with details of RAF and other military personnel.

The book is signed by its original wartime owner, Captain C. Farbrother (he has also added the serial number of his revolver 'B.9918'). Captain Farbrother was an officer in the Territorial Royal Artillery and served throughout the war.
