Sa première mission dans l'aviation remonte à 1913, à l'âge de 18 ans, lorsqu'un de ses dessins fut utilisé pour illustrer le programme de la course aérienne de Hendon. En guise de paiement, il reçut un vol dans un biplan Farman de 70 chevaux. Pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, Bridgman a servi comme officier dans l'Honourable Artillery Company. Il est surtout connu dans l'industrie aéronautique comme le journaliste qui a rejoint C. G. Grey en 1923 au sein du personnel de Jane's All the World's Aircraft après avoir travaillé pour le personnel de \u003ci\u003eThe Aeroplane\u003c\/i\u003e.
