Handbook on Ammunition is a superbly illustrated handbook of the explosives, shells and small arms ammunition in use with the Royal Navy in the decade before the First World War. The book has an ink stamp of Bull Point Royal Naval Ordnance Depot, Plymouth, on the front endpaper. Subjects covered include: Gunpowder, Cordite, Lyddite, Cartridges for B.L. guns, Cartridges for Heavy Q.F. guns, Storage, Projectiles, Fuzes, Fireworks, and Ammunition tables. The book is very well illustrated with coloured scale drawings of many shells, cartridges and fuzes, along with other diagrams and line drawings of ammunition, tools and other equipment. The description of the various types of ammunition is comprehensive and detailed, and includes details of markings, manufacture, storage and use. For anyone interested in the Naval Guns and ammunition of the Royal Navy's Dreadnoughts and other warships just before the First World War, this is an invaluable reference work.
In very good condition. The boards are in good condition, with some marks and a little wear at the edges and spine. There is an ink stamp of the 'Royal Naval Ordnance Depot, Bull Point', dated 29th March 1906, to the front endpaper. The binding and hinges are very good and secure. The text, coloured plates, and illustrations are in very good condition.
