D. Tracy, an expert marksman and officer serving with the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. Undated, but published c.1918. One of the most comprehensive military revolver manuals ever published, the book includes everything an officer or NCO would need to know about the handling and use of the standard service issue Webley .455 revolver. Other weapons, such as the Colt, Smith \u0026amp; Wesson and automatic pistols are considered, but the author largely concentrates on the Webley MK VI, which was the preferred weapon for the vast majority of British officers in WW1. Subjects covered include: selecting a revolver, revolver vs. automatic pistol, grip, stance, aiming, trigger pressing, range drill, loading and unloading, firing, maintenance, accessories, close quarter fighting, use in trench warfare, using two pistols at once, ammunition, the Webley Mk VI, the Prideaux quick loader, revolver bayonets, lanyards, and firing while on horseback. The book is very well illustrated throughout with photographic plates and diagrams. Ray Riling, the well-known authority on firearms, described it as 'An excellent treatise on the use of the revolver, with especial reference to the Webley service pistol' - \u003cem\u003eGuns and Shooting\u003c\/em\u003e (Greenburg, New York, 1951).\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eCaptain Charles D. Tracy \u003c\/strong\u003ewas, along with Captain J. B. L. Noel, one of the British army's greatest experts on the use of the handgun in First World War trench warfare. Tracy was a student of the gunfighting techniques used in the 'Wild West', and is thought to have been a personal friend of William 'Buffalo Bill' Cody. In 1916 Tracy was able to contribute his views on pistol shooting to the new edition of the War Office's \u003cem\u003eMusketry Regulations\u003c\/em\u003e, anonymously authoring its addendum No.3 on the Webley pistol. Tracy also influenced the way the revolver was deployed at the front by teaching at the British Army School of Musketry at Bisley.
