A very rare 1916 edition of Medical and Surgical Handbook for Officers in Command, a WW1 Admiralty manual. Issued to Captains of Royal Navy ships which did not have their own medical officer - including vessels such as Torpedo Boats, Gun Boats and Submarines. The handbook includes a wide range of basic medical advice that would have been of vital importance to the crews of these vessels operating in wartime conditions. Subjects covered include: exposure, diseases and injuries common to seamen, fevers, ague, sunstroke, heat apoplexy, epilepsy, fainting, cholera, dysentery, surgical diseases, poisoning, etc. There are also appendices on artificial respiration, medical supplies for submarines, torpedo boats, etc, and directions for aplying tourniquets.
Condition:
In good condition. The boards have general signs of wear and use, old water marks, and other marks. The text and plates are in very good condition, with some minor wear to the page edges. The binding and hinges are good and secure.
