A very rare restricted WW2 War Office Air Operations handbook. This was Supplement No. 1 to Army/Air Operations Pamphlet No. 4., G.S. Publication 1496. A large format publication, it deals with the loading and operation of RAF and Army  transport aircraft such as the C47 Dakota. It includes detailed instructions for the equipment and other technical aspects of loading transport aircraft. The handbook also covers the loading and deployment of gliders such as the Horsa, Hadrian and Hamilcar, which were used in airborne operations at Arnhem and during the D-Day campaign. Subjects covered include: safety factors, distribution of weight, payloads, lashing, ramps, centre of gravity, tools, equipment, Dakota aircraft plans, loading tables, equipment size tables, ground training, use of the Dakota load adjuster, and glider transport. The handbook is well illustrated with photographs, diagrams, scale plans of aircraft, and line drawings.

 

Condition:

In good condition. The card cover is in good condition, with general signs of wear and use and some marks. The stapled binding is good and secure. The text and illustrations are in good condition, with a few minor marks and some creased corners.
