A rare War Office Field Sketching and Reconnaisance manual, published in 1903, covering field sketching, military maps, map reading, reconnaissance and the use of the service compass and other navigational instruments. A practical and detailed manual, written for Officers, N.C.O.s and soldiers, the book is well illustrated with line drawings, folding diagrams and maps. The book is signed on the title page by 'E. W. Hanly'. (A Captain E. W. Hanly was a prisoner of war in Germany during WW1).


Condition:

In good condition. The boards are in good condition, with general signs of use. The binding and hinges are secure, the hinges having been reinforced with archival paper tape. The text and illustrations are in good condition, with some marks and annotation in blue pencil by the original owner. Signed on the title page by 'E. W. Hanly'.
