A Georgian Gilt brass pocket compass, made in England, dating from c.1825. With a hand-painted enamel compass card in the classic Georgian style. Although unsigned, this is a high quality compass, from one of the finest English makers. It has a Gilt brass case, bar needle and jewelled pivot. There is a fully functional transit lock operated by a tiny lever behind the bow. This type of transit lock is only seen in late 18th century and early 19th century compasses. The compass comes complete with its original velvet lined morocco leather case.
Condition:
In very good condition, and full working order. The compass finds North very well. With some wear to the gilt finish of the case, and some marks to the needle. The morocco leather case is in very good condition.
